Betsy Taylor
Director 

Betsy Taylor has been the director at Holy Name Preschool for 15 years and she enjoys it more and more each year! Her love for early childhood education began in high school where she took every early childhood class they had to offer. She then went on to pursue her degrees. She has a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Lynchburg College, and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A & M. She has been a teacher most of her life. She took an extended break to raise her three amazing children, Billy, Brenden and Kyla. 

Betsy has lived in Steamboat Springs for 25 years and absolutely loves it...as long as she gets the ocean at least once a year! She has a passion for cooking, gardening, yoga, dancing, and laughing. Betsy's greatest passion is giving the children the opportunity to discover, create, explore and to grow in a warm, nurturing environment. Betsy looks forward to the opportunity every day!

Lisa Nelson
Preschool Teacher

Lisa Nelson is so happy to be teaching at Holy Name Preschool! She started working here when she was only 18 years old! This is her 9th year now teaching and gets better and better each year. Lisa attended Colorado State University and earned a degree in Early Childhood Education.

 

She was fortunate enough to grow up in Steamboat Springs and live here again as an adult. She still falls in love with the valley more and more every year. Her husband and Lisa enjoy doing 'Steamboat' things like fishing, camping and paddle boarding.

 

Lisa is excited to help the Preschoolers grow. She will model and encourage positive attitudes, engage young minds, encourage perseverance, resiliency, and embrace challenges. Lisa is looking forward to loving up her Holy Name Family!

Maggie Rose Carrigan
Floater

Maggie Rose is a teacher here at Holy Name! Maggie was born and raised in Steamboat Springs and graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 2015. After an incredible gap year of training and living in Switzerland, she started full time working at Holy Name and knew right away that this was her passion! She started classes in 2016 at CMC to start her degree in Early Childhood Education. By taking classes and working at Holy Name it is by far the best learning experience she has ever had.

Other than working at Holy Name, Maggie Rose is a competitive alpine snowboarder for team Ireland! She has dual citizenship with Ireland and the U.S. due to strong Irish roots! Maggie is extremely appreciative of growing up in Steamboat and getting to be a part of SSWSC. Maggie will be trying for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing!

Holy Name has always been a special place to Maggie because she attended preschool here! 

Maddie Johnson
Preschool Teacher Assistant 

Maddie was born and raised in beautiful Lake Tahoe, CA until she adventured to Steamboat for college. She completed her a AA in psychology and immediately fell in love with the beautiful landscape and fun activities this place had for her active lifestyle. It is also where she fell in love with her husband-to-be whom she will be marrying in 2020. Steamboat is where she developed a love for education and wanting to be a part of early education with children. Maddie was drawn to Holy Name Preschool because of its family setting and such great creativity with the teachers and the students. When Maddie is not at Holy Name, she enjoys skiing, rock climbing, hiking, gardening and spending time on the river. You will never find her alone as she has her trustee dog, Agnes the Great!

Mallory Radney 
Floater 

Mallory is a new Steamboat resident as of 2020! She came to Steamboat from Denver, but would consider herself a Wisconsinite at heart. Mallory loves the cheesehead state so much that she named her pug puppy after Bucky Badger. 

Before living in Denver, she lived in Virginia Beach, Japan, California, and Wisconsin. Wisconsin was her home for 16 years, so naturally she developed a love for cheese and a habit of saying, "Ope!" She graduated from UW-Oshkosh where she studied public relations and theatre. 

Just recently Mallory decided to make a big life change and switched from the business world into the education world. She is excited to learn everything she can about teaching and is so thrilled to be at Holy Name! Not only is she hoping to have an awesome, fulfilling new career, but is also looking forward to becoming a much better skier! 

Jess Kiser
Substitute 

Jess is one of our wonderful subs at Holy Name! Jess worked here at Holy Name prior for 5 years with Lisa Nelson as co-teachers of the Prekindergarten class, before that she worked at Grandkids Child Care Center with infants and toddlers. Her love for kids came from being the oldest of 6 children and being a caregiver her whole life. Jess grew up in Boulder, CO, but has lived in Steamboat for a little over 10 years. 

She enjoys spending as much time as possible being a mommy to her son Teigen, who is a 5th grader at Strawberry Park Elementary. In the summer, you can find Jess walking her Rottweiler, Lona, or on the beach in Stagecoach, where they live. In the winter, you will find Jess and Teigen out on the ice, fishing or on the Mountain, shredding through the powder! Jess is so excited to be a sub and see all the kids smiling faces!

Terrin Kinser
Monkey Teacher Assistant

Terrin is very excited to be a new teacher! She is a Colorado Native, raised in the Eagle Valley. She attended school in Searcy, Arkansas at Harding University. Most recently, Terrin spent the last year in South Korea, teaching English to children ranging from preschool to grade two. Through that experience, she discovered her calling in teaching. Terrin loves seeing children learn and grow through their exploration and discovery of the world around them.

 

In Terrin's free time, she enjoys hiking, cross country skiing, reading and crafting. Some of her favorite things are her bulldog, Rachel Ray, floating the river, skiing and Sci-Fi. 

Caroline Syverson
Pre-K Teacher Assistant 

Caroline is excited to be working at Holy Name Preschool as the PreK Assistant Teacher! Caroline spent most of her life growing up in Atlanta, GA. She moved to Steamboat after graduating from high school to study at Colorado Mountain College and surrounded herself with nature. While studying at CMC she decided to turn her passion for working with children into a career and began studying Elementary Education for two years, she decided to take a break and explore teaching Early Childhood. She is passionate about helping each child develop in a fun positive and playful learning environment. 

When she is not working at Holy Name, she can be found reading at the library or exploring one of the many wonderful hikes Steamboat has to offer. She loves to watch baseball and is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan! She loves animals and spending time with her family whenever she can!

Sue Lottes
Substitute 

Sue Lottes is our substitute at Holy Name. During the winter, Sue supervises the Kindergarten and ski school, known as Kids Vacation Center, at Steamboat Resort. 

Sue is originally from Ohio. She attended Ohio State University where she earned her degree in Recreation Education. Sue has lived in Steamboat for 20 years now and has 3 beautiful daughters who also attended Holy Name! 

Sue has worked with different ages at various summer camps and has had a lot of experience with children. Sue is excited to be subbing at Holy Name and loves seeing the kids smiling faces!

Emily Schweitzer
Pre-K Teacher 

Emily is very thrilled to be the Pre-K Teacher here at Holy Name Preschool! She has such a passion for working with young children. 

She worked in the Autism and special needs field for over 10 years after graduating from high school she received a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. Emily has enjoyed taking Early Childhood classes at Colorado Mountan College. 

Emily has been living in Steamboat since October 2014. She spent a year in between, in Aspen working for The Cottage Preschool as a Special Education Paraprofessional and teaching ski lessons, mostly for students with Autism. Before starting at Holy Name,she worked for Yampa Valley Autism Program but realized that she just loves working with preschool kiddos. Emily also teaches ski lessons part time because she LOVES to ski. 

Emily is originally from upstate New York and spent most of her time in the Adirondack Mountains. She loves to ski, bike, boat, kayak, hike... almost anything outdoors! In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends, making jewelry, doing puzzles, and being outside!

Mo Crouch
Substitute

Maureen "Mo" Crouch is very happy to be a part of the Holy Name Preschool Substitute staff. Mo has lived in Steamboat for 22 years and is delighted to call Steamboat her home.

She grew up in Wisconsin but moved out west shortly after graduating from High School. She earned her bachelors in Elementary Education at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and completed her Masters in Curriculum from Adams State College in Colorado. She loves working with children who keep her youthful attitude alive.

She is currently the Director of Religious Education at Holy Name Catholic Church for children ages Pre-K through 5th grade and also does some substituting in the public schools here in town. She enjoys reading, hiking, and swimming as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. She is happily married to Scott and the two of them enjoy the mountain living here in Steamboat!

Brenden Taylor
Substitute 

Brenden is a substitute here at Holy Name. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas but grew up in Steamboat Springs. Brenden also lived in Denver for five years where he attended the University of Colorado for a degree in communications. Brenden has extended his education by taking early childhood education classes.

 

In his free time he enjoys playing hockey, snowboarding, going hiking and watching sports. He is looking forward to a fun year with all the new and familiar faces.
