About Our School

Holy Name Preschool was established by Holy Name Catholic Church in 1978 to offer a Catholic Christian alternative in early childhood education and care to families of Steamboat Springs. Our staff strives to appreciate and nurture each child within our holistic spiritual tradition as the unique individual God created and sustains.

Holy Name is founded on a deep respect for each child. It is our philosophy that early childhood should be a time of fun, exploration, and discovery within a warm, nurturing, and secure environment. We believe childhood should be a journey, not a race.

The school’s purpose is to provide an atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual growth and development of the young children enrolled. We adhere to the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s guide to developmentally appropriate practice.

We acknowledge parents as the most significant adults in a child’s life and strive to support our families in any way possible. Holy Name Preschool continues to be a specific community outreach ministry of Holy Name Catholic Parish and is licensed in the State of Colorado through the Department of Human Services.

Young children are eager learners. They learn through their play; this is how they form concepts about themselves and their physical and social environment.
Our curriculum includes: sharing and conversation times, story time, songs and finger plays, music, creative art activities and crafts, games and movement activities, field trips throughout the community, food projects, science and nature activities, exposure to shapes, colors, numbers, letters, and celebrations of birthdays, and holidays.
We provide extensive opportunities for children to develop conceptual thought, logical reasoning, problem solving, reading, and math skills

The curriculum is designed to challenge and stimulate each child’s sense of faith, fantasy, creativity, imagination and understanding of the world. Self-expression is encouraged through language arts, music, dramatic play, and interaction with teachers and friends. Our teachers guide the development of social skills, independence, and a positive self-concept. The classroom environment is arranged to give children the self-confidence to explore, discover, and grow.

We follow the Archdiocese of Denver, Office of Catholic School, Early Childhood Curriculum Guidelines, as well as The Creative Curriculum for Preschool program.
